The flowers are blooming, the temperature is dropping and you are more than ready to leave the winter behind and move on to spring. With a nearby golf course and vast dining and shopping options, you’re bound to enjoy springtime in Vienna, VA. Only one thing stands in your way: spring-cleaning. Everyone dreads it, but spring-cleaning is almost a rite of passage for the new season.  Luckily, we have provided you with a spring-cleaning checklist along with a few tips so you can get everything done, leaving you with ample time to explore Vienna and enjoy the warm spring weather.

Dust Everything

It’s possible that during the year, a great deal of dust has accumulated in virtually every corner of your home. Really, you’ll be surprised at the amount of dust you will come across. Spring allergies are stressful enough, so dusting every room in your home will eliminate another common allergen – dust. Go through every room and take the duster to every nook and cranny you come across. Remove decor as needed, and dust every surface. The ceiling fan could also use some dusting since it is likely that it will be used more and more as the weather gets warmer. Don’t forget to get to areas you might neglect, such as kitchen cabinets and doorways. Once every room is thoroughly dusted, your home will feel brand new!

Flip Your Mattress

It is recommended that you flip your mattress at least once a year, so what better time to do this than during spring-cleaning? While you are flipping your mattress, it is also a good idea to vacuum it in order to remove any dust.

Store Winter Clothes

The beginning of spring means it’s time to (temporarily) say goodbye to heavy coats and thick sweatshirts, and bring out the shorts and tee-shirts. To save space in your drawers and closets, store all of your winter clothes away for the spring and summer since you will not need them in the coming months. Place your winter clothes in storage bins under the bed or in vacuum-sealed storage bags. Both options save space and give you plenty of room to put your spring and summer wardrobe on full display.

Clean or Replace Welcome Mat

The welcome mat in front of your door has seen some pretty ugly stuff. Anyone who has ever walked into your home has stepped on your welcome mat with their shoes, tracking in unwanted dirt from everywhere they have been. Over time, your welcome mat has accumulated dirt and germs from your shoes and the shoes of your guests. You have two options: (1) Give your welcome mat the toughest and most thorough cleaning it will ever experience, or (2) Toss it and buy a new welcome mat. Either option works, but the latter will be a huge time saver.

Disinfect All Doorknobs

Like the welcome mat, door knobs are also a place where germs and dirt congregate. Everyone in your house touches doorknobs to get into a room, but do you know when the last time they washed their hands was? Although you should disinfect doorknobs and other surfaces often, use some of your spring-cleaning time to take some disinfectant spray to every doorknob and surface in your home. It will get rid of unwanted germs and bacteria, which can help prevent the flu from spreading in your home.

Clean Fridge and Pantry Areas

Clean the inside of your fridge with salt and club soda. The mixture rids your fridge of unpleasant odors and dried-up spills, and makes it much easier to clean your fridge’s interior. While you are in the kitchen, take the opportunity to organize the pantry and throw away any expired foods that are taking up space.
